The Bleeding Disorders of South Carolina (BDASC) Emergency and Financial Assistance Fund is intended to improve the quality of life of individuals and families affected by bleeding disorders. The assistance fund provides funds to eligible individuals and families who need emergency financial assistance and non-emergency aid for; basic living expenses emergencies, IE: utility, electric, housing, water, car, phone; medical and living expenses incurred due to the medical care associated with a bleeding disorder; transportation and lodging to HTC clinics, hospitals; medical equipment needs and supplies; Medical Alert ID; medical testing and bills, labs, health care insurance assistance, dental expenses (orthodontics are not covered), and mental health services. Other assistance requests may be available upon an individual basis and funding revenue, such as school needs, work training, college tuition assistance, and national meetings support.
Because of the time-line in processing these requests, these funds may not be considered for most emergency related expenses, however we will make every attempt to process the requests in the timeliest matter. Every effort should be made to utilize other community resources such as Social Services, food banks, and other organizations that supply these types of needs.

Travel Grants for educational and supportive BDASC events may also be available. Applicants will need to fill out a financial assistance form prior to attending. A gas card reimbursement will be provided once the event is over and the applicant has attended.
$25.00 – For miles traveled over 150 miles or more, round trip.
$50.00 – Maximum reimbursement for miles traveled 300 miles or more, round trip.

Many pharmaceutical and home healthcare companies also have assistance programs to help individuals with medical costs. Co-pay and other resources may be available by checking with the many manufacturers and home care representatives in your area. Please call upon the Chapter for their contact information.
Affordability remains an issue for the bleeding disorders community. There are some excellent resources available to assist our community, whether it is to help cover insurance premiums, co-pays, or other out-of-pocket insurance (OOP) costs. NHF’s public policy team has updated the information about patient assistance programs, including general eligibility criteria and contact information. Eligibility criteria and coverage for each of these programs is slightly different and frequently change, so we will periodically update the document as we receive information about any changes.
