BDASC HOSTS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ADVOCACY DAYThank you for your participation in another successful Advocacy Day at the State Capitol in Columbia. This year was very different however, we can say it was just as successful as past years. We now have virtually all the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives as cosponsors for H. 3934 including the Speaker of the House—Murrell Smith (R-67). Sue Martin met with the subcommittee chair and the committee chair to iron out a way forward for the copayment accumulator legislation. Having the support of the Speaker is very important. Thank you for advocating to the remaining members of the House of Representatives and for pushing them to become cosponsors of the legislation. Your support is invaluable to securing a victory.
BDASC was recognized in the House Chamber by Representative Carla Schuessler (R-61st). BDASC is so honored to work with a champion like Representative Schuessler. Later that morning the community met with Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette (R-SC) who read our proclamation for Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month (March 2026). She gracefully posed for pictures with our community. The House and Senate met for a rare joint session which provided advocates with an opportunity to meet with Senate Offices. When the Senate reconvened at 2:00pm, Senator Larry Grooms (R-37th) and Senator Greg Hembree (R-28th) recognized the community from the well of the Senate. Senator Hembree read an especially poignant message recognizing Chase Hodges, the son of Shay Witt who passed away last summer. There was not a dry eye in the chamber when Senator Hembree was finished.
At advocacy day and after, our community obtained four cosponsors in the Senate—Senators Goldfinch (R-34), Rankin (R-33rd), Walker (D-22nd) and Hutto (D-40th). Two of those Senators are member of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee. The Senate bill currently has 18 cosponsors. We need your assistance in gaining additional support. Below is an email message that you can send to your Senator. We can help you with where to send the message, please contact Sue Martin to work with her to engage your Senator.
