SPG Construction was blessed to be able to participate in the 2020 “Par for the Clot” charity golf tournament held at The Preserve at Verdae golf course in Greenville, SC on September 11. The Preserve at Verdae is a really spectacular course. And this was for a really worthy cause – the Hemophilia of South Carolina (HSC).

This was one of the best organized and ran events of its type we’ve participated in for some time. All proceeds went to Hemophilia of South Carolina to support their programs, services and advocacy initiatives.
Sue Martin, Executive Director of HSC, and her team did an amazing job with this year’s event, which raised a record $48,500. Ric Martin from Jacobs also did an outstanding job with much of the planning for the event, as he does every year.
Jacobs Engineering, CSL Behring, HKA Enterprises, ThermoFisher, GA West, Metromont, and Genentech were some of the major sponsors. There were too many others to mention. Engineering, Construction & Manufacturing companies were well represented, along with key equipment suppliers and service providers. This was the kind of day when your competitors might become your partners, and some of your partners became your competitors – depending on the pairings!
The day started out early, with perfect, sunny weather. Sue’s team had things running like a fine Swiss watch. Right before the shotgun start, all were treated to an amazing and very special rendition of “America the Beautiful” by Ms. Apryl Tilert. Tears were observed on the faces of a few men and women (including on some big, tough looking fellows….)
The course was incredible, and the tee-off committee and volunteers made sure we had some additional fun along the way. There was a hole where you spun a wheel to see if you’d play a long whippy club, one where you hit an exploding golf ball, and so on! And some “Golf Poker” was played, with players getting cards based on hitting greens on select holes.
