2015 HSC Turkey Trot Thank You to Everyone!!!

The morning of November 7, 2015, began very early with the last of the signs being put out and everything starting to take shape. The threat of rain was in the air but the rain held off until almost the end of the walk. After relocating the walk once the Riverfront Park became indefinitely closed from the damage of South Carolina’s historic flooding, nothing was going to stop our walk from beginning. There was excitement in the air for weeks before the walk, fun competitions among teams for walkers and funding raised, and a general celebration of working together in unity to reach our goal while raising awareness of hemophilia and bleeding disorders. Tents dotted the streets from Sponsorship vendors and HSC’s refreshments and registration booths, Big Time Entertainment was on hand to provide an atmosphere of fun, and Emeralds Artistry painted faces and produced caricature drawings for the kids and kids at heart. Teams dressed in costumes for fun. Team “Eli and the Unstickables” came as Minions and their teammate even won the “Cutest Turkey Trot Costume” Trophy Award. Team “Fleming” won the “Largest Fundraising Team Trophy” and award with Team “Connect 4” just behind them as runner-up. Team “Virtual Business Office Solutions” and Team “Fleming” raced for weeks encouraging team mates to join them to be the largest team walking and in the end Team “Fleming” pulled out in front with Team “VBOA” a close second. All teams were provided trophies and pictures to remember the day. The Walk/5KRun path was slightly altered due to the rains throughout the week making the complete 5K route slightly dangerous, but the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners received their medals after a great run, despite the course changes. All participants received a Turkey Trot medal to take home and for the little ones, they wore it proudly for the rest of the day. The Turkey Trot had 253 registered walk/run participants, 24 teams were present among the numbers to include individuals and their families, $13, 689.25 was secured and raised by those 24 teams and a total to date of $42,704.00 was raised for the Chapter and national research. We look forward to next year and will begin soon to look for a permanent location or we may choose to remain at Crooked Creek. We know you will have a wonderful experience and hope you will join us again next year! Thank you everyone for walking/running with us!
